AI for Health in Africa
Translating Clinical Data into Life-Saving Interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa
We aim to create a data science center of excellence focused on transforming clinical datasets into impactful interventions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Projects
MUDSReH supports core research projects like the Multimodal Database of Retinal Images in Africa (MoDRIA) and AVE-Map for cervical cancer screening. We aim to expand into dermatology, radiology, and microbiology.
Learn MoreDatasets
MUDSReH collects datasets on eye diseases and cervical cancer in Africa, with plans for expansion. These datasets are used to develop AI models for healthcare improvements.

MoDRIA
Multimodal Database of Retinal Images in Africa
Posterior segment eye diseases are the second leading cause of blindness in Sub-Saharan Africa. Imaging of the retina can help diagnose blinding posterior segment eye diseases (PSED). MoDRIA will create the first publicly accessible retinal imaging database based on the African population.
Automated Visual Evaluation and Geospatial Mapping
AVE-Map is a clinical trial focused on improving cervical cancer screening through AI and geospatial analysis. The project will develop AVE-based screening for health workers and combine it with geospatial assessments to scale cervical cancer screening in Ghana and Uganda.
Data Management and Analysis Core
DMAC supports research projects by establishing an Open Data Science Platform and facilitating systematic data capture, integration, and analysis. The goal is to create a health data science ecosystem in Africa, focusing on secure, preserved, and processed health-related data.
MUDSReH Pipeline❜
Mudsreh's approach to AI research and innovation is to develop a new AI pipeline that will enable the creation of AI-driven solutions for healthcare in Africa. The pipeline consists of interconnected stages that facilitate the development of these solutions.
