Welcome to MUDSReH

Welcome to the Mbarara University Data Science Research Hub (MUDSReH). At MUDSReH, we are pioneering a transformative approach to clinical care through the integration of data science and implementation science, focusing on medical imaging in sub-Saharan Africa. Recognizing the critical barriers in accessing, analyzing, and applying medical images to clinical practice, our mission is to develop innovative solutions tailored to the local context. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as AI and machine learning, alongside locally relevant datasets, we aim to harness the potential of medical imaging for impactful clinical outcomes. Our initial focus includes optimizing fundus imaging for diagnosing eye diseases and mobile-phone-based cervical cancer detection—conditions highly prevalent in our region. Through robust and strategic collaborations with local academic institutions, ministries of health and international partners in technology and implementation science, we are building a multidisciplinary ecosystem to transform research into actionable healthcare solutions that will enhance diagnosis, treatment, and policymaking. MUDSReH is more than a research initiative; it is a commitment to improving lives. Together, we are laying the groundwork for a sustainable, multisectoral ecosystem that bridges the gap between innovation and clinical impact, empowering health systems across the region. Join us on this journey to harness data for better health outcomes.
